In Japan, there are hundreds of convenient yet delicious places to eat. Mastering where to quickly get a meal is a key to survive in this hectic society that we live in.

What is the Japanese soul food? Yes, that's Gyudon. It is also Japanese fast food so that students and business persons often go typically for their lunch, dinner, or even snacks.

If you are looking for the best value for money, Matsuya is ideal. Its Gyudon comes with Miso soup at the cheapest price range.

Sukiya(すき家)


Sukiya has the most number of stores in the three chains, nearly 2000 stores which is double the stores of the other competitors.  They have a variety of menu other than Gyudon such as eel bowl, seafood bowl and curry. It is also good for a group of people as it provides tables as well as counter seats.

This is probably my most favourite reasonable restaurant with a wide variety of high-quality food. Most dishes are under 1000 yen and you can substitute nutritious five-grain rice for normal rice for free! Chikin Kaasan Ni(チキンかあさん煮)Teishoku, simmered chicken cutlet, is the national favourite while Basile Chicken Salad Teishoku is my favourite.

Yayoi ken(やよい軒)


The kindest thing about this restaurant for someone with a great appetite and low budget is its reasonable price with unlimited free white rice refill. They have plenty of meat dishes like miso pork cutlet, chicken cutlet, chicken with Nanban mayo sauce. 


Noodles(麺)


Another Japanese unique fast and cheap food is udon and soba noodle. Udon is often customizable with topping and affordable. Do not hesitate to slurp noodles as it is the cool and traditional way to eat!

Marukame Seimen(丸亀製麺)

This udon chain offers a house-made fresh noodle that literally made at each premise. The texture is chewy yet smooth. There are many choices of tempura available so it would be fun to find your favourite combination.

Fuji Soba(富士そば)

The cheap chain store that you often see is Fuji Soba. Do not underestimate it since this chain store uses fresh Ki-Soba, which is soba made out of 100% buckwheat flour without containing any wheat flour, that is sent from the factory every morning. The locations are usually accessible from stations and open 24/7.

Convenience stores are literally convenient in Japan so that you can find ones at every corner. They have everything from a variety of meals, drinks, alcoholic beverages, stationery, shirts to all kinds of everyday necessities. They are committed to making great food and desert competing with the big three convenience store brands, Sven Eleven, Family Mart and Lawson.
