Best Affordable Furniture Stores around Tokyo That Locals Choose 【Simple Design】

I found the difference between the recommendations of Japanese and English websites about the furniture shops.

I moved to start a new life with my wife a few years ago and had to buy all the furniture as Japanese rooms are NOT furnished at all.

Below are my recommendation furniture stores that I really think are worth buying, based on the fact that I actually use the items of most of the brands as well as other Japanese recommendations.

IKEA(イケア)

The world's most famous furniture chain IKEA is also a popular one among Japanese.

As of 2019, we've got 11 stores in Japan,  Shin-Misato, Tachikawa, Funabashi, Harajuku, Kouhoku are accessible for people in the Kanto region.

The simple Nordic design fits in Japanese homes well. But the stores usually located in suburbs so it is better to go with a rental car, while Funabashi location in Chiba prefecture is accessible from JR Minami Funabashi station(南船橋駅).

NITORI(ニトリ)

Nitori is a Japanese version of IKEA that more stores are walkable from each station in the city center Tokyo.

I would say that the design is just okay, and the quality is good for its affordable price.

This would be the first place to find your needed items, then go to others if you look for something further.

MUJI(無印良品)

Muji is the all kind lifestyle store that you can find worldwide and many stores in Japan.

It is loved by many Japanese with its simple minimal design items.

All you need for your house can be found here and the furniture collections are very cool to have for any type of house.

The price is a bit more expensive than Ikea and Nitori.

NOCE(ノーチェ)

With 700 items mainly imported from Taiwan, Poland, Czech, Noce offers good Nordic or cafe style furniture at affordable prices.

I personally check this retailer first when I look for something as I think the combination of the price and design is well balanced.

If you are looking for outlet items NOCE SCONTO(ノーチェ スコント)in Shimokitazawa(下北沢)is the right place to visit as well as its outlet online store.

UNICO(ウニコ)

This is a little fancier furniture shop than others with items that look a sense of luxury.

Its design stands for the warmth of vintage wood and you can also find fabric and everyday items here.

It is a good idea to have one or two big items of this brand among your affordable furniture in your room so that your room looks much more gorgeous than one without it.

LOWYA(ロウヤ)

This is an online shop that I haven't bought with yet but definitely will do in the next chance.

A lot of Japanese people recommend this shop as it is very reasonable and a high level in the design so that it is absolutely good value for money.

Please share this if it is helpful to get inspiration for your favourite furniture shops!
